Break bad habits and get in control with life coaching

By: Moloch Rosenberg

Do you sometimes feel that life is running away with you? That you can't motivate yourself to be the person you want to be? If so, then perhaps a little bit of life coaching is in order. Jemma Walton discovered how you can blow the cobwebs out of your life.

Imagine your life is a film – is it a tragedy or a comedy? Well, you're the director, the writer and the main actor in that film. You can decide whether you want to laugh or cry.

Noelyne Jones says that she can work with you to sharpen up all aspects of your life and push yourself right to the top of your game, helping you to make your film an Oscar winner.

Noelyne is a life coach, helping people to make the most of their lives, and is also a trained Neuro Linguistic Programmer (NLP) – which helps you think about your life in a good way, concentrating on the good bits and editing out, or rethinking, the bad.

She worked as a coach for businesses who wanted to improve their staff's performance, but after her marriage broke up and she started to feel as though she had no purpose or direction in her life, she decided to try some life coaching.

It worked for her and she wanted to help other people in the same way.

By focussing on what was important to her, she was able to lick her life back into shape, became self-employed and found herself a new partner.

According to Noelyne (46), life coaching can work for any aspect of your life – relationships, family, wealth and even leisure time. "I ask clients to decide what they want to improve, and then we look at what they want to improve first," she said.

"What tends to hold people back in life are 'limiting beliefs' – where they think they're not good enough, and this is particularly true of women.

"If the majority of men saw a job advert and they had two or three of five things an employer wanted, they would apply anyway. But a woman might have four of the five skills needed, but she would say to herself 'Oh, no. I haven't got everything they're looking for'. Life coaching can
help you to address your limiting beliefs."

The Neuro Linguistic Programming side to her work can see someone's life turned around in just five hours. She said: "NLP addresses how we take in information, the meaning we take from what happens."

Put simply, this means that what happens to us has no fixed meaning – we can choose how we interpret an event, and if you choose to interpret it positively, the more confident, happier and likely you are to have good experiences in the future.

"In any situation you can feel good about yourself," she said. "And the more confident you feel, the more likely you are to have people respond well to you, which will make you more confident in the future."

Many people will sneer at life coaching, saying that sometimes we are put in circumstances beyond our control which we don't like, and which we can't get out of – such as when a loved one dies.

But Noelyne, who lives in Yaxley, said that NLP teaches a technique that will make you better able to handle anything that life throws at you.

"A lot of people don't want to change – in a lot of ways it's easier to remain a victim, to not take responsibility for your own destiny," she said.

Noelyne offers a free, no obligation 30-minute coaching session to anyone who would like to know more about how to change their life or career, increase confidence levels or improve their performance and results.

Stub the cigs out for good

Performance coach Claire Hegarty claims to have a 100 per cent success rate in helping people to give up smoking.

"Most people think that smoking is physically addictive, but it's not," she said. "Very few people are so addicted that they wake up in the middle of the night and have to go for a smoke."

Claire asks her clients to keep a two-week smoking diary, recording when they smoked, who they
were around and how they felt at the time, and she will then spend two to three hours talking them through giving up, as well as teaching them an ancient Hawaiian breathing technique that replicates what you do when you take a pull on a tab.

None of her eight clients have gone back to the demon weed.

"The human mind can't process a negative," she said. "It can't think of nothing – it has to think of something before it can blank it out. But I teach clients how they can train themselves to not think about cigarettes.

"The mind is a very powerful tool, but no one teaches us how to use it."
Claire, who is based on the Wirral, offers a free consultation, and as well as helping you to give up smoking, can also help you tackle phobias and lose weight.
