Living in a cluttered space can lead to confusion, apprehension, disorganization, anxiety, exhaustion, and even embarrassment. If you live alone, then the clutter solely affects you; however, if you live with roommates or a family, clutter can take its toll on them as well. Think of a cluttered or messy area in your house… How do you feel when you look at it? What do you do when you need to find something, but you know it is buried in the mess somewhere? Do you feel overwhelmed or defeated when you think of cleaning up the mess? Do you wonder where you should store everything? If you have answered “yes” to either of the last questions, then you know you have a problem with disorganization in your immediate environment. It is crucial to maintain a neat and organized home, as well as your office space. By making certain that every thing has a place and is in its place, you can ensure that you will be able to find it quickly. If you can maintain an orderly area, you will save yourself much time that was once spent looking for items and sifting through piles of clutter. Furthermore, if your home is kept in an orderly fashion, you will be proud to show it off or invite people over at a moment’s notice. As well, if your work area is always kept tidy, you demonstrate to co-workers and superiors that you are an organized and thorough individual. Clutter does not only have to refer to a larger environment or specific room, but can also represent smaller tasks. For instance, you may have a closet that is full of clothes - some on hangers, some draped over other times, shoes shoved in the corners of the closet, and articles tossed haphazardly on the floor. This is no way to treat items that you have spent a considerable amount of money on! When you go into your closet, how long does it take to find something? Do you feel overwhelmed just looking at it? If so, it is time to reorganize that space, give away clothes you do not wear anymore, and de-stress yourself. Clothing should be fun, not a chore! What about that stack of magazines or CDs tossed in some corner of the living room or kitchen? Does looking at the pile antagonize you? Perhaps its time to recycle the articles you do not use anymore, sell them at a garage sale, or give them away. Furthermore, who among us does not have a heap of photographs laying around in a closet or drawer somewhere, slowly fading from memory? Now is the time to get those photos out, put them in an album, and label them, before you forget which event you were at, or worse, lose them. It is time to reorganize your environment! Stop procrastinating and sort out the rooms and articles you have been meaning to get to for the past months or years!
