Recovery Now!

An Open and Honest Discussion on Alcoholism
By Ned Wicker

The book of Ecclesiastes says there is nothing new under the sun, so when we decided to plan an internet radio program on drug addiction and alcoholism, we decided not to try to reinvent the wheel. When RECOVERY NOW debuts on Monday night, July 7, at 8:00 p.m. (EDT), there will be no bells and whistles, but we will try to present honest, solid information on how people can deal with drug addiction and alcoholism.

There is so much material out there on the subject of addiction, and so much more is being added to the body of knowledge every day, but the human experience has not changed over the centuries and it’s the human side of addiction that we will focus on every week, while also presenting medical and scientific information. Alcoholism and drug addiction are family and community diseases, and the stories we hear from people every day bear that out. RECOVERY NOW will be about people and their struggle.

Since launching http://drug-addiction-support.org and http://alcoholism-support.org earlier this year, we have received support and encouragement from Rev. Dr. Dan Geeding, the chaplain at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, whose dissertation, ‘Ministering to 12-Step Oriented Persons Through Biblical Curriculum in the Context of Parish Nursing” served as a catalyst for the project. Dan will be a regular contributor to the show. We will also bring on healthcare professionals who specialize in recovery.

The show has no sponsors, no hidden agenda and we will not try to sell anything to anybody. We believe it’s important to have a dialog about alcoholism and drug addiction, so consider this program to be a discussion group on recovery. Moreover, we will encourage our listeners to share their stories, ask questions and correspond with us in advance of each show.

Alcoholism and drug addiction are about the human condition. Because that is so, we will try to break down the barriers and stigmas associated with the struggle that millions of people face every day. We will endeavor to go beyond the addiction and see the person. There is nothing more precious than a human life.
