The Unmatchable Teak Wood

By: Kenny F Leichester

Earth is a reservoir of resources which mankind has been tapping on for centuries. The food we grow, the black oil we pumped from the inner crusts, the animals we catch and eventually rear, earth has been kind to us in providing for our seemingly infinite needs. Its forests provide us with beautiful trees and logs which we use in making our homes.
Teak is one wood that is logged aggressively by man because of its high demand. The teak wood bears certain characteristics that makes it popular, one being highly durable. Another characteristic of teak is that the wood has natural shine therefore needs no varnish coating after it is turned into furniture. The teak tree is also highly insured by Mother Nature; in a sense that the said characteristics are only prevalent in wood of older teak trees. This means that logging for immature teak tree will be worthless.
Today, with growing environmental awareness, the government has taken some measures to ensure the continuity of these priceless trees. With every tree that is logged, another will be planted. This will allow the forest to continue having trees grow as well as making sure that the wood based industry lives on.
What makes teak the most popular choice for home owners is that it is highly resistant of the changing climates. It too has been known to be resistant to termite attacks. Both these qualities makes the teak wood the number one choice for both indoor and outdoor furnishing. There are many range of teak furniture available and they range from exotic to conservative.
While wood-based furniture might carry a bit more premium in its pricing that the corresponding plastics compatriot, but if budget is no constraint, a teak furniture set adds colors and charisma to any living room. Not limited to just the sofa set, teak have also found its way to cabinets, side tables, window frames, doors and wall ornaments.
The beauty of wood-based accessory is that you can custom make one to your heart's desire. There are plenty of good craftsman around, and their range of skills makes any work easy enough for them as long as you are not bending physics to the extreme. There is after a certain limit to the pliability of the wood unlike say plastic or metal, which limits - but only just - the extent of curves you could incorporate into a design.
Patio gardens are now a very important part of the house. More and more are incorporating this space outside their house to become a place for relaxation and a place for family activities. It is then essential that their signature patio garden is equipped with patio furniture that will make the place more comfortable so that they are able to enjoy the scenery and inhale the fresh air more.
Many homes are equipping their gardens with outdoor heaters for an all year round usability of the patio as a guest and lounging area. Operated during the chillier seasons, these patio heaters makes short work of heating the open spaces to a level which is comfortable enough for one to just sit around outside without having to wear two or three layers of clothing.
Craftsmen have also been quick to use teak for patio umbrellas. Providing shade and protection to the garden, these items are beautiful creations on their own right. Not necessarily an eyesore, umbrellas add further contrasts to the natural look of a patio garden especially when one is very creative in its placement. With it around, the setting up of a lounging area is far easier as the shaded zone would mark this out.
Wood-based product will lose its natural look and shine after a period of time. However, there are some ways to rectify and prevent this from happening. There are many companies that specializes in restoration and protection of teak wood. What they do is apply a coating on the surface of the wood and this will ensure the preservation of natural look and shine. This will also protect the wood from mildew growth. Owners will only need to wash away dirt and grime from the wood surface with water and does not have to worry that their action will harm the wood.
It is no secret that teak furniture will require your extra tender love and care to keep it looking good. Teak furniture that is well cared for can lasts more than a hundred years for it is unmatched in durability. Teak is always a good investment for teak never goes out of style.
