None of us really want to get old. But maybe it isn't so scary if we could help keep the appearance of youthfulness on the outside coupled with a slowing or even reversing of the aging process on the inside. Strength, vitality, abundant energy, vigor, quickness of mind, mood and immunity all define what we equate with youth and we can keep much of these things intact with the right tools. It is starting to become better known that our body is designed to last at least two to three times the years that is actually does. But we allow ourselves to grow old and feeble long before we need too because we are conditioned to expect that we can do nothing to slow the progress of the outgoing tide of age. When we are young our body holds its own and is able to regenerate new tissue, create energy and defend itself against disease. But as the years pass us by the balance starts to shift and you lose the ability to run up hills and exert yourself the way you did when you were younger. You wake up tired, and you can't see or hear or function as you did when you were younger. But a healthy balance of health is more likely to be in your favor for much longer when you maintain a healthy body metabolism – your body's engine. You see, long before your body develops serious disease or illness it will be showing signs that accelerated aging is taking place. These signs may include losses of lean body mass, muscular strength, energy levels, vital capacity, certain hormones, the ability to control blood sugar, and increases in body fat, blood pressure, insulin levels and stress hormones. Even though you may not show any signs of illness you may not be aging in the most favorable way. Although most of us are aware there exists a vast chasm between 'not being sick' and optimal health doctors are more focused on treating sickness rather than advising people on how to stay healthy. If there is an anti-aging pill, it has to be a program of strength training exercise. Proper exercise helps maintain strength and energy levels, vitality, vigor, stamina and endurance, vital hormones, and increases self esteem and self confidence. But exercise is not magic, it's work. It is the physical work and movement that our bodies need to stay healthy and has been removed from our modern day lives. Almost everything single thing we do on a daily basis requires muscle strength and the ability to take in and utilize oxygen in our cells and tissues. These things require constant vigorous movement to keep them healthy and functioning. This is why a proper exercise program is not some 'optional extra' you do if you have time left over or you 'feel like it'. It is something you must do to avoid accelerated and premature aging. Keep in mind only strength training exercise will give you true anti aging benefits. Long, slow, steady state activities like walking, jogging or cycling are great as part of an active lifestyle but can never ever replace a proper exercise program. The exercise performed must constantly challenge and load the muscular system and be intense enough to stimulate 'youthful hormones' to be effective.
