Is Speech an Acquired Ability? Speech is frequently regarded as a natural ability, inherent to every human being and ingrained at birth. Some would argue that regardless of the child's environment during his or her formative years they will eventually learn to speak the language spoken by "their own kind". Science has shown, however, that speech is an acquired ability rather than an innate one, and as such is something that can be taught with relative each. The same principle holds true for acquiring skills in public speaking Keeping Your Old Speeches Have you ever struggled for an idea for your next speech? Or better still, have you ever had to do a speech on a topic which you have already talked about to a different audience? The only problem is that you cannot remember a word of it! All that you remember was the topic and that your audience liked it! The Difference Between Speech and Talk Public speaking can best be described as knowing the difference between speech and talk. The first will be respected and revered, the second scorned and ridiculed. The man who can speak is a leader, the man who can talk a fool. A speech will be recalled and recited for a lifetime, talk will be forgotten five minutes after it is finished.
